LIFE IN THE MEDIEVAL CASTLE
What comes to your mind when you think about castles? Luxurious? Clean? Well.. Life in the medieval castles were very different and undesirable. They were host to two of the greatest human feelings-- pleasure and pain. After a victorious battle, a castle was the place for feast and glory. But after a lost battle? After a plague? After death has destroyed children? Castles were not so luxurious at all. But people in the middle ages who lived in a castle, build their faith by having Churches as a main component for castles since what everyone needed faith. Everything happened because God wanted it to. And so since Church was the main component, science weren't allowed, scientist were killed and tortured.
During the middle ages, living inside the castle was a terrible thing. Hygene was one of the problems in the castle, farmers had to constantly enter and leave the castle spreading diseases and germs. Castles were also very cold and smelly. Enemies usually cut off any water supplies, threw all types of missiles at the defenders (including rotting bodies to spread diseases) and Nobles rarely took a bath. For example, it is said that King Louis XIV of France only bathed three times during his lifetime!
In education, only the rich could afford to be educated. While some peasants studied, they were very rare. Women were ignored education-wise and they were forced to do as their husband wished.
Altough, living in a castle was harsh, castles played an important role in the middle ages,castles were used as protection against invaders and attacks of the enemies because a castle was so tough to take, they served as the main way to defend your property from invaders or outlaws. It was a place for the entire town to gather if under attack. And also castles form a center ground for the community, and for showmanship.
